What I do

Most of my work develops out of snapshot photos or stills grabbed from video. Opportunistic and casual, these sources help me find images that offer a near-neutral, 'documentary realism' (camera vérité). The most interesting are those where ordinary subjects, chance elements, ephemeral or unintended details suggest something deeper: a revealing insight, aspect of character, narrative, mystery, or reference...

I use digital and on the canvas processes to explore and respond to the raw imagery and to subjects found in this way - to visual qualities, content and suggested ideas.

Reflecting this plurality, my paintings tend to combine varying degrees of realism and interpretation, expressed in a range of techniques and effects.

About me

A Fine Art graduate and teacher, then Director of a university IT unit developing art and digital photography software - now retired and painting as much as I can.

Based in the UK, I frequently show paintings in open and group exhibitions and have work in private collections in Canada, France, Germany, Ireland and the UK.

Thanks for looking at my work. I hope you find some interest and enjoyment in it.
