Figure paintings and portraits are overlapping groups and some portraiture can be found in this section. However, figure paintings concentrate less on facial close-ups and more on other elements: the body, its posture and contextual (background) features.

As with portraits, I try to ensure that my figures look natural in position and expression and so base my paintings (wherever possible) on imagery that has been captured without the subject being fully aware the camera or even my presence - such as in a general shot of a beach or street scene.
